Friends of Whitman County Library
Meeting Minutes
November 14, 2017
 

In attendance: Shirley Cornelius, Kathy Buchholtz, Sheri Miller, Peggy Kehne, Kristie Kirkpatrick, Polly Anderson, Wanda Alderman, Velma Ulrich, Sue Hallett, Nichole Kopp, Mikki Tague, and Debi Hergert

The meeting was called to order by President Sue Hallett at 11:00 a.m.

The October minutes were read and approved without corrections.

The treasurer’s report was passed around and Shirley reported the findings. Edith Ray memorials are still coming in. The report was approved.

Old Business

The Hank Cramer Vietnam War program was reported to have been incredible.

New Business

Sue shared how grand the reception was when she was presented the FOL state award. She reported that she shared some of the personal stories from our library. Sheri complimented Sue on how gracious her words were when receiving the award.

There were no supporters of the month to report .

The roof in The Center has a catastrophic leak that needs to be repaired immediately. The total cost is $20,000. After discussing the situation with all FOL officers, Sue signed a contract with the Kirkpatricks, borrowing $10,000 to pay for a new roof on ˝ of the building. FOL will repay that loan as funds allow. Sue shared the particulars of the contract which includes no interest accruing.

Volunteers are asked to bring appetizers, if they are able, to Art Among the Trees on Dec. 20th.

The branch update included sharing about Boomer, the exotic cat that is touring all of the branches.

The Youth services are busy with Outreach, programs on Internet Safety, and technology classes. The teens will be making Morse Code bracelets.

Wanda Alderman made a motion for the Friends to sponsor the staff gift cards from Rosauers at $25.00 each. Polly Anderson seconded it and the motion passed.

Upcoming events for December were noted including Tree of Lights and Remembrance Ceremony, Winterfest, Elegant High Tea and Art Among the Trees.

Stephen Van Vleet has once again volunteered his time to develop the Barns of Whitman County calendar. His time and work is greatly appreciated.

Kristie presented the updated levy information. It was suggested to mention what you “like” about the library in any letters to the editor.

The next meeting will be January 9th at 11:00 a.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
