Friends of Whitman County Library
Meeting Minutes
March 7, 2017
 

In attendance: Wanda Alderman, Becky Lawhead, Patti Cammack, Shirley Cornelius, Sheri Miller, Nichole Kopp, Cheryl Jones, Polly Anderson, Mary Ann Mitchell, Dawn Heiydt, Sue Hallett, Peggy Kehne, Micki Tague, and Debi Hergert

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 by President Sue Hallett.

The February minutes were read and approved without corrections.

Shirley reviewed the financial statement, branch balances and overall account balances as of February 28, 2017. There were no corrections to the report and it passed as read.

Old Business

Shirley reported that 140 thank you letters have gone out for FOL and was asking for the Friends to reimburse the postage. Polly moved to provide the monies, Becky seconded it and the motion passed.

A discussion was held concerning possibly emailing receipts and looking into a new software program at some point. Also, Shirley was going to look into using online banking.

Mary Ann Mitchell shared that she had spoken with Gorden Forgey at the Whitman County Gazette about having an “article” included in the paper concerning the library. Dawn Heiydt suggested having them appear seasonally or quarterly.

New Business

• Sue suggested another road trip or two to visit the branch libraries. Kristie will help schedule the day to correspond with the days the branches are open.

• Kristie shared the Steve Bravard/ Rattlesnake Breaks civil suit concerning the water that was leaking in the center. The first court appearance ruled in our favor. There will be another court date on May 19, 2017 because Rattlesnake Breaks is now suing the Friends of the Library and Kristie Kirkpatrick as project coordinator.

• Debbie G from Oakesdale Quilt store is the supporter of the month for March and a teacher from Tekoa will be the supporter for April.

• Youth services update: Sheri shared that the Thrifty Grandmothers donated money for a babysitting class scheduled for April 3rd . Nichole reported on how successful the coding camps have been and asked for funds to purchase coding kits to be housed in the library. Becky Lawhead made a motion to provide up to $700.00, Cheryl Jones seconded it and the motion carried.

• Kathy Buchholtz shared information about Rural Heritage and Patti Cammack presented a power point with wonderful photographs of weddings, children and family.

• Kristie shared upcoming events. Thomas Mohr’s reception will be on March 10th in the center and FOL will be providing refreshments with proceeds benefitting the restroom project.

• SEL will be visiting our library on Wed, March 29th. The next meeting will be held on April 4th at 11:00am.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:10.
