Treasurer’s report

No corrections to treasurer’s report and they were passed as read.

• Shirley suggested that at each January meeting, Friends approve a deposit of 5% or $250 of the unencumbered balance to the Acorn fund. Kristie also mentioned that the amount could be more flexible depending on the balance and group’s activities at the time. Cheryl motioned that a deposit be made into the Acorn Fund each January with consideration given to the unencumbered balance available. Becky seconded the motion and it carried by vote.

Old Business

Kristie reported that the Friends annual newsletter was mailed last week and membership renewals are starting to come in. She asked the group to reimburse the library the costs associated with paper, labels, copies and envelopes as the other costs of the mailing and mailing permit were already paid by the group. Wanda made a motion to pay the costs, Polly seconded and the motion carried.

Kristie updated on activities at The Center. She thanked Nichole for her fundraising “Galentines Crafting event’ and passed around a “thank you” card for Cherry Alice Van Tine who is assisting with fundraising for a kitchenette. Shirley also commended the many volunteers who are keeping The Center clean and organized.

New Business

Supporters of the Month – Dan and Margaret Leonard were selected as January supporters. Crystn Guenthner and Suzy McNeilly will be honored for February. The group discussed the possibility of another road trip where they could visit branch library locations and also assist in making Supporter presentations. The group decided to discuss the details of a road trip at a future meeting.

Kristie also shared a recent Daily News column that recognized the Friends officers for their work and shared appreciation to the last 6 months-worth of library supporters of the month.

A photo exhibit by Tom Mohr called “Why I moved to Colfax” comes to The Center March-April. A community reception will be held on Friday, March 10 from 5-7 p.m. Kristie invited all members to attend and also asked for donations of any sorts of refreshments. Many members volunteered so Kristie will send a reminder closer to the event.

Upcoming Events: Trivia and Steve Balzarini’s class - Age of Fighting Sail of the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Era. (Class fills quickly so please register early.)

There was also discussion of putting local book reviews on library books to help patrons know what to check out. Many agreed they love the idea and staff encouraged it as well.

With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 11:47.

The next meeting is Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Colfax Library

Respectfully submitted. Kristie Kirkpatrick
