Thank you!

Last month, Whitman County Library Foundation’s auction to benefit the Bettie Steiger Community Enrichment Center in downtown Colfax raised a whopping $50,000. While more funds are needed, words cannot express my gratitude for this outpouring of generosity and support which will go a long way in helping us complete the facility. The Center will expand the classes and programs currently scheduled in our overcrowded community room while enabling us to provide innovative and exciting new services.

Because WCL covers such a large geographic region and supports fourteen branch locations, we depend upon community volunteers and donations to make ends meet. Each month, we recognize local supporters for the positive difference they make in our libraries. Here are our most recent honorees:

Larry Caudill of Colfax volunteers his time to paint library parking areas in Colfax and Farmington. He has a genuine love of libraries and shares that with everyone he meets.

WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement student volunteers provide afterschool literacy programs and valuable mentorship for secondary students in the Albion, Colfax and Palouse Libraries. Currently, they are teaching the popular Crazy 8’s Math Club.

Diane Harp manages the Tekoa Library with a special flair for instilling a love of reading and learning for the community’s children. Diane received the ultimate compliment, being nominated for this award by a local patron.

Eileen Soldwedel is an amazing supporter of the Tekoa Library. Eileen is a generous supporter, who assists with programs, snacks, donates books and drums up support within her community.

Carol Cauley of LaCrosse generously volunteers her time and resources to clean the library. Carol is active in LaCrosse Community Pride and a great community supporter!

Ackerman Heating and Air of Colfax generously supports the library by funding radio advertising that features library programs, events and services. Because advertising is beyond the scope of the library’s budget, these efforts greatly improve the library’s ability to “get the word out!”

Paige Collins of Rosalia generously donates her time and resources to that community’s library, including the purchase of a big, bright rug that now anchors the children’s story programs and reading area.

McLeod’s Palouse Market provides donuts each year for the Turkey Leg Fun Run, an annual event that supplies new children’s books to the Palouse Library. McLeod’s also supports Summer Reading and a wide variety of community events.

Éclair’s Coffee and Company of Tekoa is a major sponsor of Summer Reading and other library programs within that community. Diane says, “I can go to Éclair’s whenever my library has a need!”
