Friday Play Group at the Whitman County Library in Colfax

Are you looking for something to do with your kids on Friday mornings? The Whitman County Library invites you and your kiddoes to a free Play Group in the Norma McGregor Community Room of the Colfax Library from 10:00-11:30 a.m. each Friday beginning January 6, 2012.

Library Youth Services Manager, Sheri Miller says, "Not only do the kids have a great time with educational toys and room to explore, but there are many advantages of involving your kids in Play Group gatherings."

Here are a few reasons to attend Play Groups at your library:

1. Children have opportunities to learn to share. This is particularly a great benefit for kids without any siblings.

2. Children learn basic social skills. Research has shown that youth who attend programs such as Play Groups develop essential social-emotional skills. These skills form the foundation that allows traditional school skills, such as literacy to develop. It offers times for parallel play (where they play side to side) and eventually interactive play.

3. Enhances children's vocabulary. The best way for toddlers to learn new words is to interact with others. Play Groups are the perfect opportunity to build your children's vocabulary.

4. Parents/caregivers network. It is a great time to get out of the house and socialize with others in your community.
