STORYTIMES are available at each of Whitman County Library's 13 branches for children ages 2 years and up. Storytimes begin in the fall after the Palouse Empire Fair and end the middle of May. See Locations and Hours for the times and locations of each branch's storytime.
At Storytime, children are involved in a variety of age appropriate activities that may include stories, poetry, fingerplays and action activities, games, musical events, crafts, puppets and creative dramatics. These activities help to promote cognitive development, imagination, curiosity, comprehension, language fluency, socialization and reading readiness.
Colfax Outreach Storytime Programs:
WCL provides Storytime Outreach programs to local certified Preschools and Daycares. These visits are made on Wednesday of each month. Contact Sheri to schedule a visit.
Contact Sheri if you would like to arrange for children's groups to "Visit the Library." Our staff will gladly arrange for your group's visit including a tour and a special Storytime while you are here.
Third Thursday Club is for children in grades 1-4. This activity meets every 3rd Thursday of the month from September through May. It includes a snack, craft, activity, and story time. At Colfax, the after-school program is held each third Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30pm.
Summer Reading Program. For six weeks in the summer, the Summer Reading Program is held in each of our 13 branches.
Last year more than 600 kids participated in the fun activities, crafts, and stories. To make reading even more fun, we reward reading time with small prizes and incentives, such as pencils and bookmarks, and occasionally a theme-related snack. Those who complete the program are awarded a certificate and "goodie" bag.
