Whitman County Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
November 13, 2012
Present: Teresa Myott, Jon Kehne, Chuck Petras, Bob Bates, Becky Dickerson, and Peggy Bryan.
Jon Kehne, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. He asked for additions or modifications; Jon requested to include information on USDA Loan payments schedule in the latter part of the meeting.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed. Bob Bates made a motion to accept the minutes, Chuck Petras seconded and the motion carried.
Peggy presented the financial reports through October 31, 2012. She presented payment voucher resolution #20-12 totaling $72,781.41. Becky Dickerson motioned to approve the resolution; Teresa Myott seconded and the motion carried.
The board interviewed two candidates to serve on the Whitman County Library Board of Trustees, filling the position that will be vacated by Jon Kehne at the end of 2012. Peggy informed the board that Luke Baumgarten was unable to attend for an interview and relayed the message that he would be available in December for an interview. Steve Balzarini and Robyn Tramposch were both interviewed.
Peggy reported on the circulation statistics for October 2012. System-wide circulation had a decrease of 74. She noted the decreases in Endicott, Farmington and Uniontown. She reviewed the activity on database usage, Facebook and digital checkouts.
CONTINUED BUSINESS: Jon announced he had completed Kristie’s evaluation and asked Teresa Myott to sign it. He will give Kristie the evaluation next week.
NEW BUSINESS: Jon Kehne presented information on the USDA loan payment. He said if the library increased the payments each year to USDA by $3800, the loan would be paid off in 30 years instead of 40. It would also save the library approximately $180,000 in interest. After a discussion, Becky Dickerson made a motion to increase the USDA payments by at least $3800 annually, unless the Capital Reserve Account balance falls below $50,000. Teresa Myott seconded and the motion passed.
The board reviewed the board candidates, both interviews and letters. After a brief discussion, they selected Steve Balzarini. They asked Peggy to send letters to all of the candidates.
Peggy announced that the returns from Lamont to date are in favor of annexing to the library district at 96%. A brief discussion followed on the next step for Lamont and the library.
Peggy passed out invitations to the Winter Luncheon and Meeting, which will be on December 14 at noon at the Colfax Golf Course. The December board meeting will follow the luncheon. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:57.
