Board of Trustees Meeting
Colfax Branch
May 17, 2011

 

Present: Becky Dickerson, Bob Bates, Jon Kehne, Teresa Myott, John Aune, Kristie Kirkpatrick, Peggy Bryan, and Carolyn Petersen.

Becky Dickerson, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. She asked if there were any additions or modifications to the agenda. Kristie requested that the resolution to sign contract with LaCrosse Community Pride be changed to Motion to sign contract with LaCrosse Community Pride under continued business. The minutes of the previous meetings were reviewed. Jon Kehne made a motion to accept the minutes and Teresa Myott seconded. The motion carried.

Peggy presented Resolution #07-11, Accounts Payable & Payroll Funds Certification, giving the library staff the authority to pay accounts payable and payroll. John Aune made a motion to accept Resolution #07-11, Bob Bates seconded and the motion passed. Peggy presented the vouchers that were prepared in April. Jon Kehne made a motion to approve the payments, Teresa Myott seconded and the motion passed. She explained that the new reports from the county were difficult to interpret, so there were no other reports this month. The County changed computer systems this last month to New World.

Kristie presented circulation statistics for April, noting that circulation was up nearly 1100. She also discussed the programming statistics county-wide, noting the diverse programs and attendance.

CONTINUED BUSINESS:

Kristie discussed the contract with LaCrosse Community Pride. Bob Bates made a motion that Kristie sign the contract on behalf of the library, John Aune seconded and the motion passed.

Kristie announced that Inland North West Community Foundation awarded $30,000 to the Endicott renovation project. The funding is contingent on approval of the USDA Loan. The health concerns and economics of the Endicott community impacted their decision to fund this project. The Friends of Endicott Library have raised $12,000 for this project. Kristie is hopeful that Avista will contribute to this project as well.

Peggy presented Resolution #06-11, authorizing Kristie to sign the USDA loan documents on behalf of the library. John Aune made a motion to accept resolution #06-11, Bob Bates seconded and the motion passed.

NEW BUSINESS:

Kristie announced that the Library Supporter of the month for May will be the Xenodican Club of Palouse. The Xenodican Club founded the Palouse Library in 1920, going door-to-door to collect books for the town’s first formal library. Today, the Xenodican Club is no less active holding books sales, frying funnel cakes at Palouse days, providing cocoa and cookies at haunted Palouse, providing snack for children’s programs, cleaning, painting, supporting the library and doing whatever is necessary to insure that the residents of Palouse have the very best in library service! The Library Supporter of the month for June will be Scott & Sue Hallett, long time library supporters.

Kristie reported the library is working on the annual newsletter. It will be similar to the past newsletters and will include a list of recent memorials.

Kristie thanked Becky Dickerson for her amazing presentation at the Annual Staff Development Day on Press Releases, giving her a card of appreciation from the Friends of WCL.

There was a brief discussion on the Hamilton Building on possible uses of the building until it is ready for the library to use.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:50 The next meeting will be on June 21 at the Palouse Branch. A board training session meeting followed with Carolyn Petersen from Washington State Library.
