Whitman County Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
January 24, 2012
Present: Becky Dickerson, Teresa Myott, Jon Kehne, Kristie Kirkpatrick and Peggy Bryan.
Jon Kehne, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. He welcomed the audience, Colfax Mayor Todd Vanek and Chuck Patras, prospective board member. Becky asked for additions or modifications; there were none.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed. Becky Dickerson made a motion to accept the minutes, Teresa Myott seconded and the motion carried.
Peggy presented the financial reports through December 31, 2011. She presented payment voucher resolution #01-12 totaling $68,977.72. Becky motioned to approve the resolution and Teresa seconded. The motion carried.
Kristie presented the circulation report for December. She noted that overall circulation was down slightly. Colton, Palouse and Uniontown had increases in their circulation. Website visits, database usage, computer use and programs continue to be strong in the annual 2011 circulation. The 2011 annual branch activity report ranking the branches on several factors has the top three branches as St. John, Endicott and Rosalia. Kristie commended Uniontown and Colton’s programming and circulation, which had significant increases.
Kristie discussed the $5000 ‘Transforming Life after 50 LSTA Grant.’ WSU will conduct a county wide survey, which will be in the WCL Annual Newsletter. The project focuses on marketing research in the communities throughout Whitman County. The information will assist the library in targeting the 50+ audience. The surveys from other age groups will be given to WCL to analyze directly.
Jon welcomed Chuck Patras, prospective board member from Garfield and Farmington area. After sharing a brief history of WCL, the board interviewed him. Chuck also had the opportunity to discuss his interest in the library. Following the interview, the board thanked him and told him they would notify him after all interviews are completed. Chuck left the meeting.
Kristie announced the Library Supporter of the Month was Steve Van Vleet for his efforts in the barn calendars. He photographs all of the barns, oversees production of the calendars and gives all of the proceeds to the library. An amazing supporter!
Jon asked Mayor Vanek if he wanted to address the board. He commented on the good work of the library. He further added that the City of Colfax will be reviewing the contract with the library and creating a new contract at some point. Kristie recommended that the two of them sit down at some point to discuss the details.
Kristie asked everyone to sign a card for Bob Bates. He had knee surgery in December and his recovery has been slow, but she reported he is doing better and hopes to attend the meeting next month.
The next meeting will be February 28, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. in the Colton Library. The library van will leave right at 4:00. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:10.
