Board of Trustees Meeting
Colfax Branch
December 7, 2010

 

Present: John Aune, Becky Dickerson, Leslee Miller, Jon Kehne, Bob Bates, Kristie Kirkpatrick and Peggy Bryan.

John Aune, board chair, called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. He asked if there were any additions or modifications to the agenda. The introduction and interview of Bob Bates was moved up.

John Aune welcomed prospective board member, Bob Bates. Leslee Millerís term will end this year. Kristie shared some background facts about the library and asked Bob to tell about himself also. The board proceeded to informally ask Bob questions. Bob will be contacted after todayís meeting with a decision about its selection. The minutes of the previous meetings were reviewed. Becky made a motion to accept the minutes and Jon seconded. The motion carried.

Peggy presented the financial reports. She presented vouchers #10889-10932 totaling $7,407.80 from the general fund. Becky made a motion to accept payment of the vouchers, Jon Kehne seconded and the motion passed.

Peggy presented resolution #07-10 addressing Levy Certification in 2011 and resolution #08-10 for additional 1% in 2011. Becky made a motion to approve both resolutions, Jon seconded and the motion passed.

Kristie presented circulation statistics for November. She noted overall circulation increased by 22%. Farmington, Malden, Oakesdale, St. John, Uniontown and Colfax had increases in circulation. Website visits were up by 10,000. Kids attendance at programs increased by 1168.

CONTINUED BUSINESS:

Kristie updated the board on the Colfax renovation project. She reported that the roof had leaked. The sub contractor who repaired the roof came to inspect and attempted to find the source of the leak. The company reported that they expressed concern on the roof to both Blews Construction and Larry Kom, Architect. Kristie expressed frustration that these concerns had not been relayed to the library. She is awaiting Larry Kom response to this situation.

Kristie gave an update on the Endicott renovation project. Proceeds from the German Dinner were about $5200. Approximately $3500 in donations have been received to this project. Kristie has submitted several grants also.

Kristie reported that the $75,000 offer was accepted on the Hamilton Building, pending inspection of the building. The inspection revealed problems with the roof. She will seek experts to advise on possible solutions before proceeding.

NEW BUSINESS:

Kristie announced that the library supporters of the month will be Shannon Roe and Trevor Main. Shannon and Trevor have donated countless hours in Malden, assisted in the Rosalia Branch and has done an amazing job in Malden.

Kristie thanked Becky for planning and organizing the Winter Luncheon and the gift presented to Leslee. The photo album for Leslee had photos from her two terms on the library board. Everyone thanked Leslee for her service to the library!

Kristie shared an article in the Daily News on the Library Supporter of the month.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:05. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 18 at 4 p.m. in Colfax.
