What's happening for the week of September 02, 2010

Support children's educational programs countywide by shopping in Trolls Corner bookstore in the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library. The store carries a nice variety of books, movies and music with prices starting at just 10 cents.

With the return of fall, comes library card sign up month. Anyone registering for a library card during the month of September will be placed in a grand prize drawing for $25 gift certificates to a local business of their choice. Sponsored by the Friends of Whitman County Library.

Fall also brings a whole new lineup of library classes and programs countywide. Visit library's events calendar for a complete listing for all fourteen locations.

Among scheduled events is a local appearance by renowned quilter Margaret Miller on Thursday, September 9 at 7 p.m. in the Colfax Library and also, the library hits the road September 9-12 for the Palouse Empire Fair. Kids visiting the library's booth will spin the Wheel of Prizes while adults enjoy a news selection of images from the library's Rural Heritage collection.

Whitman County Library will close September 4-6 for the Labor Day holiday. No items will be due during this closure but the online products (including downloadable audiobooks, see below) and bookdrops will remain available for customer convenience.

Whitman County Library is now offering downloadable audiobooks through a partnership with the Washington State Library. Residents now have 24/7 access to collections from Overdrive Digital Media Library and NetLibrary. Simply visit the library's website and choose the downloadable audio link for more details on how to save books to your computer or portable playing device.
