American Wife
by Curtis Sittenfeld

This novel follows the story of a fictional president's wife, Alice Blackwell. Their politics and backgrounds couldn't have been more different. Charlie was the carefree, even rowdy son of a prosperous Republican family; she was a registered Democrat who paid her bills with the moderate salary of a school librarian. Sittenfeld creates a complex character that makes this book hard to put down.
