Free Wireless Hotspots come to Whitman County

Whitman County Library announces free wireless Internet hotspots in twelve branch locations.  Libraries offering wireless Internet are Albion, Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Garfield, Lacrosse, Oakesdale, Palouse, Rosalia, St. John, Tekoa, and Uniontown.

“We are pleased to offer this free service to our customers,” says James Morasch, Whitman County Library’s Systems Administrator.  “We’ve had wireless Internet at the Colfax Library for some time but couldn’t afford to bring it to our rural locations.”

Thanks to a $10,000 federal grant (funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Office of the Secretary of State, Washington State Library division) Whitman County Library purchased the networking equipment and other technology necessary to provide wireless in six locations.  Additional cooperation with First Step Internet and the City of Pullman allowed the project to expand, bringing wireless service to eleven new locations.

Whitman County Library’s technology staff is available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer questions about the wireless network and to help customers get connected. For more details contact the library at 509-397-4366 or toll-free at 1-877-733-3375.
